Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)

A healthy eye and eye area are areas that show the person young, dynamic and lively. Excess skin and lubrication on the upper eyelid, bags, pits and lines on the lower eyelid are the leading complaints about the eyelid. People who experience these complaints have a tired, old, sad, restless facial expression. For this reason, they may be exposed to the questions of the people around them and their self-confidence and social life may be affected. With eyelid surgery, these problems are eliminated and the person is energetic and self-confident.

How are eyelid surgeries performed?

Eyelid surgeries, also known as blepharoplasty, can be performed separately with upper and lower eyelid surgeries, or it can be preferred to be performed together with eyebrow lifting, forehead lift and mid-face rejuvenation interventions. However, it is possible to apply botox and filler applications for the eyelid area in addition to these surgeries.

Eyelid surgeries can be performed with general anesthesia or with local anesthesia.

Aesthetic eyelid surgeries are divided into 2 as upper and lower eyelid surgery:

1. Aesthetic upper eyelid surgeries

In aesthetic upper eyelid surgery, it is possible to remove fat bags along with the excess skin on the upper eyelid.

2. Aesthetic lower eyelid surgeries

In aesthetic lower eyelid surgery, excess skin and fat bags are removed. However, when there are additional dimples with bagging, the fat bags are removed to some extent. The remainder is used to fill these pits. In this way, pitting is corrected along with bagging.

Surgery time

When only blepharoplasty is performed without any other aesthetic intervention, the surgery takes 2-3 hours for the lower and upper eyelids.

Postoperative period

Apart from the pain that goes away with painkillers on the same day after the surgery, much pain is not expected. The patient is discharged the same day or after staying overnight.

Swelling and bruises are seen on the eyelids and around the eyes, which will usually disappear within 1-2 weeks. After 5-7 days, the stitches are removed. The patient usually returns to work and daily life after a few days.

In the upper eyelid, there are incisions in the upper eyelid fold, and in the lower eyelid, at the bottom of the eyelashes. However, it does not cause a disturbing scar in the long run.
